UPLAND >> Residents here now have a secure drop-off location for getting rid of prescription drugs, the Upland Police Department announced this week.
The drop off site provides a 24 hour location for residents to dispose of unused prescription drugs. The prescription drug box also accepts pet medications, according to a news release.
The police department collaborated on the drop box with Reach Out and Partners for Innovative communities, a local community coalition to bring a safe and proper way for residents to dispose of unused, unwanted, or expired prescription drugs.
“The Upland Police Department is proud to work in a collaborative partnership with Reach Out to provide a free community service to safely dispose of unused prescription drugs and other over the counter medications,” Police Chief Brian P. Johnson said in a statement. “The use of the drug drop box will also enhance public health and the safety of our children through community awareness and education.”
The overall goal is to decrease access to unwanted prescription drugs and therefore curb the increasing rates of prescription pill addiction, officials said.
The drop box is stationed at the Upland Police Department, 1499 W. 13th St.
The city still has a pill and needle drop off on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the City Yard, 1370 N. Benson Ave, in Upland.
